PL transfer Deadline Day: As it happened

Premier League clubs again broke the record for transfer spending in the winter window, with almost £800 million in January.

On another dramatic transfer deadline day, Jorginho’s £12 million move to the league leaders was one of the most notable deals.

Chelsea also agreed to a British record deal for Enzo Fernandez at the eleventh hour. The Argentine and Benfica midfielder Fernandez was acquired by Chelsea for a cost of £105 million, bringing the league’s winter expenditure to almost £800 million.

Additionally, engaged in the market, Manchester United acquired Marcel Sabitzer from Bayern Munich on loan.

The Premier League’s overall spending had already eclipsed the previous January high of £430 million, established in 2018, even before the frenetic transfer activity on deadline day.

Southampton agreed to pay a club record fee of roughly £22 million to acquire Rennes winger Kamaldeen Sulemana, making them one of the day’s biggest spenders overall. A deal for Genk attacker Paul Onuachu, reportedly costing £18.5 million, was also being pushed through.

After several weeks of discussions, Pedro Porro’s transfer from Sporting Lisbon to Tottenham Hotspur was ultimately approved. Spurs agreed to a first loan deal with an obligation to buy the wingback for £40 million this summer.

The usual active Nottingham Forest saw the signings of Atlético Madrid defender Felipe, Paris St. Germain goalkeeper Keylor Navas, and Jonjo Shelvey on the final day of the transfer window.
