The Osasuna draw broke real Madrid’s winning streak

Real Madrid dropped points for the first time this season when Osasuna held them at the Bernabeu with ten men after Karim Benzema missed a late penalty.

In the 80th minute, Benzema’s penalty kick smacked against the crossbar, ending Real’s successful start to their title defence.

The hosts took the lead after Vinicius Junior before Kike Garcia equalised.

When David Garcia was dismissed for the tackle on Benzema that resulted in the penalty, Osasuna was down to ten players.

After a VAR review, Garcia was dismissed for pushing the France striker while he was the last defender, but Benzema could not take advantage.

Moments later, he had the ball in the net, but it was determined that he was slightly offside, allowing Osasuna to earn a point at the Bernabeu for the second time in as many seasons.

Madrid and rival Barcelona are tied on points, although Barcelona lead the La Liga standings based on goal differential.

Ancelotti: The game was under control, and we deserved to win

In the press conference at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium, Carlo Ancelotti discussed the matchup with Osasuna: “The game wasn’t perfect. We lacked focus in the first half with and without the ball.”

“The defensive line did not apply adequate pressure. The intensity increased in the second half following the equaliser. To modernise things, I made the alterations.”

“They had a few counterattacks, but they weren’t terrifying, and one of them led to the goal we gave up. Although we didn’t play with much vigour, the game was under control, and we deserved victory.”

“When we got an extra man, we added crosses, but they didn’t mind. Nothing else could have fit in the space. With the penalty, the game might have been won. A very successful streak comes to an end, and perhaps we can now begin another successful streak.”

“When this squad if we didn’t win, it becomes angry. We’re not happy, which is why this team did well last year. The draw has not pleased us, and we will soon respond “.

“We shouldn’t be blaming the international break for anything. We must control the break. I made adjustments to prioritise the training players as we have a solid squad.”

“We didn’t get the game outcome we wanted. We gained the advantage but lacked the good fortune to score on the penalty. We’ve performed admirably thus far and will continue to do so.”
