Bilbao have actually been performing quite well so far in 2019 as they have been picking up positive results apart from their latest league game. Gaizka Garitano’s men suffered a disappointing 2-1 away defeat against Real Sociedad last week.

Before that loss over Sociedad, Los Leones were able to pick up three victories and one draw in all competition. Their recent home game also ended in three points as they defeated Real Betis back on January 28.

Barcelona actually starting the new year in a positive fashion as their league form were excellent up till their last fixture. Blaugrana won all of their league games last month, but only pick up a point last weekend against Valencia.

Ernesto Valverde’s side will be keen on getting back on winning ways after also drawing their midweek tie in Copa del Rey. El Barca were held into a 1-1 draw at home by their arch rival, Real Madrid.

Team News

Athletic Bilbao

Going into Sunday match, Bilbao won’t be able to field Arits Aduriz, Inigo Lekue and Mikel Rico due to combination injuries and suspension. However, Raul Garcia and Bernat could return into the starting line up this weekend.

Up front, Garitano will still rely on Inaki Williams and Iker Muniain combination to trouble Barca’s defense. The home team are keen on getting themselves back on winning ways after last weekend’s defeat.

Valverde still won’t be able to call up Samuel Umtiti, Rafinha, Arthur and Jasper Cillessen due to injury problems. There’s a positive news though regarding Ousmane Dembele, who could finally return to action.

Lionel Messi reportedly is working hard to get himself fit to start this weekend following a knock he picked up against Valencia. Unfortunately, Jordi Alba will be absent on Sunday due to suspension.

Head to Head Records:

Blaugrana have been dominating recent meetings between both teams, as Valverde’s side won four out of their last five meetings.

However, recent match up between them ended in a 1-1 draw back on September 29, 2019.

Match Prediction

Drawing their last two matches, Barcelona will be determined in grabbing maximum points on Sunday. Another disappointing result could lower their confidence ahead of hectic months ahead with Champions League set to start again.

Bilbao will try hard to trouble their opponent as Garitano’s side are keen on improving their current position. The tie look set to be an exciting one with both teams targeting all three points.

Final Score: 1-1

A very hard game, I agree. However, Barcelona should take the 3 points to keep the 8 points gap before the classico.
The first 20 minutes will be very important. If Barcelona can get a goal in this minutes, then things will be easier. However, conceding a goal will make the game incredibly complicated.
