Atletico Madrid set for another Copa del Rey battle, this time they will be facing fellow La Liga side, Girona on Wednesday, January 9.
Atleti Determined to Beat Girona for the First Time
Traveling to Estadi Montilivi won’t be an easy job for Diego Simeone’s men, especially since they never beaten Gironistes in their previous match ups.
Since Eusebio Sacristan’s side promotion to La Liga in 2017, Girona have been giving many problems for Atletico.
In their previous three meetings, all have resulted in draws, so Simeone’s men will be very curious to beat their opponent this time.
Injuries remain an issue for Los Rojiblancos as they are still without several important players such as, Diego Costa, Thomas Lemar and Filipe Luis.
Girona Gunning to Shock Atletico
Their success in holding Atleti in previous meetings will give that air of confidence for Sacristan’s men this upcoming Wednesday.
Playing at their own home turn should also give them that extra motivation to cause an upset and beat Simeone’s men.
Nevertheless, it won’t be an easy job for the home side as they also have several important absentees to their squad.
Key players such as Seydou Doumbia, Patrick Roberts, Perep Pons, Carles Planas will reportedly be out for the midweek tie, giving Sacristan some tough tinkering.
This tie should be another tight affair just like their previous meetings, though Atleti are slightly favorite to take the win.
