Finishing 2018 sitting top of Spanish La Liga standings, Barcelona are looking to maintain it or even extend their lead over their rivals.
Barca Looking for First Victory in the New Year
Starting 2019 Ernesto Valverde’s side will be playing away to face Getafe at Coliseum Alfonso Perez on Sunday.
Playing away from home shouldn’t be an issue for Blaugrana, especially with super star Lionel Messi is fit and ready to go.
Nevertheless, there’s some concern for Valverde as his team will still be playing without Samuel Umtiti at the back and Sergio Busquets could also miss out due to illness.
The Catalan side still have plenty of talents though to cover for those potential absentees, so they remain a tough side to beat for anyone in La Liga.
Getafe Hoping to Extend Unbeaten Run in La Liga
On paper, Jose Bordalas’ men might not have the same talent as Barca, but Azulones have been in a good form lately.
Before the new year, Getafe are yet to be beaten in Spanish La Liga, winning two out of their last five games.
Coincidentally their two victories all happened at home, so they are in a good confidence ahead of their weekend battle against El Barca.
It will be a tricky encounter for Barca as if they are not careful, Getafe have the potential to create a shock result in early 2019.
