Joyful result arriving for two English Premier League teams, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur as they are going through into the knock out stages of UEFA Champions League.
Both teams coincidentally knocking out two Serie A teams along the way as Napoli and Inter Milan are heading to the Europa League following their group exits.
Liverpool’s success in advancing happened after beating Carlo Ancelotti’s men 1-0 at Anfield in a very tense encounter which saw both teams going at it for 90 minutes.
Needing a win without conceding, Jurgen Klopp’s men were very determined since kick off as they were pushing hard to get an early goal.
The home team’s effort was rewarded on 34 minutes as Mohamed Salah broke the dead lock with his effort.
Things got even more exciting after the break with Napoli trying to push forward more as they must get at least a goal to go through.
Both teams created several good chances and Liverpool needed a dramatic save in stoppage time from their goalie, Alisson Becker to maintain their 1-0 lead until the end.
Meanwhile, Tottenham didn’t need to face up directly with Inter as both are playing against their own opponents.
It was far from an easy task for Mauricio Pochettino’s men though as they are battling against Barcelona.
The Lilywhites needed to at least match whatever results Inter have to go through, but were under pressure early on as they found themselves 1-0 down from Ousmane Dembele’s goal.
Trailing after just seven minutes triggered positive reaction from Spurs as they were pushing hard to get back into the match.
It took them quite a while, but the visitor finally got back on level terms five minutes before the final 90 through Lucas Moura’s close range finish.
No more goals were scored afterwards and despite failing to win, that draw result was enough for Tottenham knowing that Inter only managed to get a point from PSV Eindhoven.
Finishing the group with the same points and goal difference as their Italian rival, Pochettino’s men go through on head to head results from their previous match ups.
