Manchester City’s affection towards Atletico Madrid’s players are like a neverending story. After reports over their interest on Saul Niguez, City reportedly also keen on another midfielder, Rodrigo.
Rumors from Spanish radio, Onda Cero claiming that Man City’s boss, Pep Guardiola, is very keen with the 22-year-old midfielder player. Guardiola sees the youngster has similar skill set to Barcelona’s Sergio Busquets.
Prizing away the talented midfielder won’t be cheap as Rodrigo has a 70 million Euro clause. However, further reports are claiming that City are more than willing to splash that amount of cash.
City are seriously looking for another defensive midfielder, knowing that Fernandinho is not young anymore. Moreover, the Brazilian has been getting more injuries recently, prompting concern over his durability.
Their search for a new defensive midfielder has linked them with several names and Rodrigo is the latest to come up. It remain to be seen on whether City will go for both Saul and Rodrigo, or choosing one of them.
For the specific defensive midfield role, Rodrigo seems more suitable for Guardiola’s needs. However, Saul is more versatile as he can play more than one roles including placing himself in the heart of the midfield area.
