Die Roten Bullen have been mixed results recently, winning two, losing two and drawing one from their last five matches. Salzburg haven’t really bounced back from their first leg loss against Napoli.

The Austrian outfit only managed to pick up a goalless draw against Sturm Graz this past weekend. Salzburg will be hoping to at least get a win in front of their home crowd on Thursday.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side themselves have been in a much better form compared to their Austrian counterpart. Partenopei picked up three wins, one draw and one defeat from their last five fixtures.

Their latest away fixture was not so convincing though as they were held into a draw by Palermo. Ancelotti will be determined in securing another positive result and go far in the tournament.

Team News

Red Bull Salzburg

The Austrian side doesn’t much injury problems to deal with aside from Marin Pogracic. However, Salzburg won’t be able to call up Xaver Schlager as he is suspended.

In the hope to trouble Napoli’s defense, Marco Rose will count on Mouanes Dabour and Takumi Minamino. Samassekou and Junuzovic will try their best to put on a better performance in midfield this time around.

Ancelotti’s side also doesn’t have too many injury problems with Raul Albion the only one out because of it. However, Partenopei will also miss Kalidou Koulibaly and Nicola Maksimovic at the back as both are suspended.

Those absentees means there’s an emergency situation at the center back position for Napoli. Ancelotti will most likely play Vlad Chiriches with Sebastiano Luperto as his team defensive duo.

Head to Head Records:

Their previous encounter at San Paolo, which ended in Napoli’s 3-0 win, was their only meeting in official competition to date.

Match Prediction

The first leg result could be too difficult to turn around for Salzburg, especially if Napoli remain focus and aggressive. However, with many absentees at the back for the Italian side, Rose might think his side can produce a miracle.

Ancelotti seems eager to finish things off though as he wants Napoli to go far in this tournament. This second leg encounter could still be an interesting battle, though the Serie A side remain favorite to go through.

Final Score: 1-1
